Publisher Spotlight The Handmade Home

You can find Jamin and Ashley Mills most days over at www.thehandmadehome.net as the voices and inspiration behind the Handmade Home, where they share their life, DIY spirit, inspiration and humor. The two met as college sweethearts at Auburn University where they began their love affair tinkering with projects that turned them into full-fledged “Do-it-yourselvers”. Along they way they managed to picked up some degrees (Ashley studied graphic design, before pursuing a master’s degree in art education and Jamin studied psychology before pursing a master’s in religion) and some offspring (Aiden, Emerson and Malone) as well as their lovable mutt who found her way into their logo. The two not only co-create a space on the web for beauty, laughter and love, but also have co-authored 4 books in the Handmade Home Book series. They currently reside in the tropics of Alabama where they have perfected the art of sipping sweet tea while operating power tools.

We’re creating a haven for the every day with affordable ideas, fresh solutions and one-of-a-kind looks with an abode that is realistic and attainable.
We’re the ones who constantly wear paint stains on our clothes. And sometimes, in our hair. We began our adventure together as college sweethearts, and after a decade of marriage, 3 offspring, and a mortgage later, it’s like we woke up one morning, in the tropics of Alabama still covered in sawdust when the realization hit us: this is our life. At The Handmade Home, we believe in beautiful, genuine, and approachable design for all. From our exciting adventures, accomplishments and most definitely our failures, we love an inspiring approach to life, design and simple family centered fun. When your home is a created by you and reflects who you are through the process, how can you not help but love it? Through our site, speaking engagements and 4 books we hope we are inspiring a new generation of homeowners and families to love the life they have while making it uniquely their own.

Advice for new bloggers.

Be you. Originality will make your story succeed. Don’t try to be the person you idolize, just be the best you that you can be. Find a good mentor, someone that has walked a ways down the road already and learn from their success and failure. Also take care of the basics in blogging; content, quality and original perspective.  And for heaven sakes get those ads up on your site even if it’s just your granny reading.
